From Paralegal to Work Performance Specialist With a Mission

What if I make a mistake? | What if I can't do it? | What if  I look like a fraud? | What if I fail?

“But” is often where the Noise shows up.

Sometimes, a "but" is useful information. Something about the plan, timing, or situation genuinely needs another look.

Sometimes, it's an assumption, expectation, second-guessing, or an old way of thinking that's simply getting between what you know and what you do.

The skill isn't learning to ignore every "but".
It's learning to recognize what the "but" is telling you and what to do about it.

That matters in law. High stakes, competing demands, and constant scrutiny can make it difficult to hear yourself think, even when you're very good at what you do.

For over 25 years, I've been helping legal professionals know which "buts" to kick, and which ones to listen to.

I've seen:

► Procrastinators get engaged with their work again.
► Wallflowers work a networking event like a boss.
► People-pleasers learn to put their phones down.
I started in law in the 1980s, in the trenches as a paralegal and law clerk and then as a small firm manager. I saw firsthand what pressure really looks like inside a firm and what little support there was for handling it.

I went on to earn my MSc in Applied Positive Psychology - the science of how people think, perform, and thrive - and am certified through the Association for Business Psychology in the UK.

I've worked with thousands of professionals including lawyers and firms facing today's real-world demands of deadlines, decisions, and results.

The legal profession has been a part of my work for over 40 years. Now, it’s the priority.

And my mission is clear:

To equip legal professionals with the mindset skills of MeQ™ Self-Intelligence so they can do good work, make good money, and live a good life without burnout, buzzwords or wasted potential.

Because knowing the law is only part of practising it well. How you think, make decisions, manage yourself, and turn what you know into actions matters too.

Those aren't soft skills. They're part of the job.

my philosophy

MeQ™ Self-Intelligence
The antidote to Noise

A "but" is only one place Noise can show up. Noise is the interference created by assumptions, expectations, inner criticism, competing priorities, and everything else that can get between you and what matters to you.

MeQ™ Self-Intelligence is the framework I developed to reduce that interference. It has three core capacities:

Self-awareness to recognize the Noise, its triggers and impacts before it gets too loud.

Mental wellbeing to manage the pressures and demands of work without letting them continually drain your capacity.

Goal achievement to turn what matters into action and make meaningful progress rather than simply staying busy.

The stronger your MeQ™, the easier it becomes to make deliberate choices about your work and follow through on them.

How my work is different

You won't find fluff, filler, or off-the-shelf "mindset" talk here. What I teach and coach is grounded in the realities of legal practice. The ideas and tools are meant to be used, not just understood. And when the Noise gets in the way, I'll challenge it.

Over the years, my resources and trainings have reached more than 4 million people on six continents, and my work has been featured by leading media outlets across North America and the UK. I've worked with solo lawyers, law firms of all sizes across Canada, the USA and the UK, and legal departments inside major corporations.
